Alfa Laval LKSF hygienic slot strainer
The Alfa Laval LKSF hygienic slot strainer is a filter designed to separate solid matter from liquids in process lines where product integrity and equipment protection cannot be compromised. Built for dairy processing and beverage applications, it holds solid impurities in a strainer element while allowing clean product to pass through — and when the element is full, removal takes seconds by releasing a single clamp.
Two housing configurations address different installation requirements. The LKSF-BL suits horizontal and general-purpose installations, while the LKSF-CL is sized for vertical mounting and supports continuous operation with manual or automatic discharge of collected particles. Across both models, the strainer element is available in a wide range of slot sizes, from 53 µm up to 4 mm, so the degree of filtration can be matched precisely to the process requirement without changing the housing.
Product-wetted parts are AISI 316 steel. The clamp assembly with wing nut allows the element to be pulled without tools, keeping cleaning turnaround short on production lines where downtime has a direct cost.
The LKSF hygienic slot strainer fits into a process line to capture particles before they reach downstream equipment — pumps, valves, heat exchangers, or filling heads. Solid matter is retained on the strainer element while the liquid continues through. Once the element is loaded, the housing clamp releases and the element slides out for cleaning or replacement. That sequence can be completed without specialist tools, which matters in facilities running multiple shifts.
LKSF-BL vs LKSF-CL: which housing suits your installation?
The LKSF-BL has a two-part housing and accepts product flow entering from the bottom. Impurities collect on the strainer element, and the operator has a choice: remove the element for manual cleaning, or reverse the flow to backflush the captured particles out of the filter. Backflushing is useful where stopping the line is impractical, since it clears the element without disassembly.
The LKSF-CL uses a three-part housing and must always be installed vertically. Product enters from the side, and gravity assists — most particles fall to the bottom of the housing rather than loading the strainer element immediately. A valve at the base allows the collected material to be drained manually during operation, so the line keeps running. Where fully automatic discharge is needed, two remotely controlled valves can be fitted at the discharge point. During normal operation the upper valve stays open and the lower stays closed; impurities accumulate in the chamber between them. Closing the upper valve and opening the lower one empties the chamber with minimal product loss.
Strainer element construction and slot size range
Each strainer element is welded at every intersection of the vertical rod and the surface wire. That construction method produces a rigid, dimensionally stable screen that resists deformation under flow and repeated cleaning cycles — important when an element is being pulled, flushed, and reinstalled regularly.
Slot sizes run from 53 µm to 4 mm. Standard sizes — 74 µm, 105 µm, 177 µm, 500 µm, 707 µm, 1000 µm, and 2000 µm — are available as catalogue items. A broad range of option sizes extends down to 53 µm and up to 4000 µm for processes requiring tighter or coarser filtration. Because the element is interchangeable within the same housing, changing the filtration degree does not require replacing the strainer body.
Materials and surface finish
Product-wetted steel parts are AISI 316. Non-wetted structural components use AISI 304. Seals are EPDM rubber, compatible with the operating temperature range of -10 °C to +140 °C. The surface finish is semi-bright. When ordering, specify the strainer element slot size, the male part type, and the connection position — all three are required to configure the unit correctly.

FAQ
In which regions does Euroflow operate?
The LKSF-BL has a two-part housing suited for general installation, while the LKSF-CL has a three-part housing designed specifically for vertical mounting. The LKSF-CL allows for impurities to be manually or automatically discharged during operation via bottom valves, whereas the LKSF-BL relies on manual cleaning or backflushing.
The strainer element is available in slot sizes ranging from 53 µm to 4 mm. Standard catalogue sizes range from 74 µm to 2000 µm, and the filtration degree can be adjusted by simply changing the element within the existing housing.
All product-wetted steel parts are manufactured from AISI 316, and other steel parts are AISI 304. Seals are made of EPDM rubber, providing a temperature range of -10 °C to +140 °C.
