Why choose an AISI 316 inline strainer for hygienic process lines?

Material selection defines whether a strainer survives daily contact with acidic products, hot cleaning fluids, and aggressive sanitizers. On the LKIF, all wetted parts are manufactured in acid-resistant AISI 316 stainless steel. Other steel parts use AISI 304, and seals are EPDM. The semi-bright finish supports cleanability and resists product adhesion, while the all-stainless construction is compatible with routine CIP and SIP procedures within the EPDM temperature envelope.

Strainer element design and 40.2% perforation

The heart of the LKIF is a perforated filter element with an integrated filter ring and seal rings. Perforation reaches 40.2%, with hole dimensions of 1.5 mm and 2.25 mm available. This open area scales meaningfully with line size: the 25 mm unit delivers approximately 4,400 mm² of strainer area, the 51 mm unit around 16,200 mm², and the 101.6 mm unit roughly 50,600 mm². Larger strainer areas reduce pressure drop and extend intervals between cleaning, which matters on continuous production lines.

Easy cleaning and bidirectional flow for process line strainers

The filter element lifts out quickly for manual cleaning, so operators can clear accumulated solids without dismantling the surrounding pipework. The LKIF also supports flow in the opposite direction when required, giving designers freedom in piping layouts and allowing the strainer to be integrated into CIP return lines or reversible circuits. Few moving parts and simple geometry mean maintenance is predictable and training requirements are minimal.

The LKIF is offered in six line sizes — 25 mm (1"), 38 mm (1 1/2"), 51 mm (2"), 63.5 mm (2 1/2"), 76.1 mm (3"), and 101.6 mm (4") — covering the bulk of hygienic process piping. Maximum product pressure is 1000 kPa (10 bar), minimum is full vacuum, and the operating temperature range with EPDM seals spans -10 °C to 140 °C. Pressure-drop and capacity data is measured per VDI 2173 using water at 20 °C, providing a transparent reference for sizing calculations.

Connection standards: clamp ends, DS unions, and SMS unions

To match existing piping standards, the LKIF is available with clamp ends (including clamp rings, clamp seal rings, and clamp liner) or with DS or SMS unions. This flexibility simplifies retrofit projects and lets specifiers align the strainer with the union standard already in use across the plant.
