Alfa Laval SaniJet 20 / 25 rotary jet head tank cleaning

Alfa Laval SaniJet 20 / 25 rotary jet head tank cleaning

The Alfa Laval SaniJet 20 and SaniJet 25 are rotary jet head tank cleaning units designed for hygienic process industries where validated, repeatable coverage is a process requirement. The SaniJet 20 handles tanks from 5 to 30 m³; the SaniJet 25 scales up to 150 m³. Both combine pressure and flow to produce high-impact jets that rotate in a 360° pattern, covering the entire tank interior in a successively denser sequence until a full cleaning pattern is complete.

Cleaning runs up to 60% faster than conventional methods, and water and cleaning media consumption drops by up to 70%. The units are self-lubricating through the cleaning fluid, require no external lubricant on the media-driven version, and are available as UltraPure variants for pharmaceutical and biotech facilities operating under cGMP requirements. ATEX Category 1 certification covers installation in Zone 0/20 explosive atmospheres. For operators who need documented proof of cleaning performance, the optional Rotacheck sensor confirms 3D rotational coverage during every cycle.

Get in touch

The SaniJet 20 and SaniJet 25 rotary jet head units use the pressure of the cleaning fluid itself to drive a geared rotation around both vertical and horizontal axes simultaneously. No separate drive motor is needed on the media-driven version. In the first cleaning cycle, the nozzles distribute fluid across the tank wall in a coarse pattern. Each subsequent cycle tightens that pattern progressively until the entire interior surface has received direct jet impact. Once a full pattern is complete, the unit restarts and begins the next cycle automatically.

How geared rotation delivers consistent tank coverage

The geared mechanism ties the horizontal and vertical rotation speeds together in a fixed ratio, producing the characteristic successively denser pattern rather than a random spray. Because the coverage sequence is deterministic, each cleaning run produces the same result — a requirement in any validated CIP programme. Operators can define a cleaning time and expect consistent coverage across runs. On the SaniJet 20, the jet reaches 1.5 to 4 m; on the SaniJet 25, impact throw length extends to 5.5–10 m, with maximum wetting reach of 12.5–17 m.

UltraPure configuration for pharmaceutical and biotech facilities

Both the SaniJet 20 UltraPure and SaniJet 25 UltraPure are designed and configured to meet cGMP requirements and the documentation standards of the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Surface finish on product-contact parts reaches Ra 0.5 µm — tighter than the Ra 0.8 µm standard finish on the base SaniJet 20. Documentation follows the ISPEV model and GDP, and includes a Requirement Specification, Design Specification with traceability matrix, Factory Acceptance Test with IQ and OQ protocols, and a Site Acceptance Test protocol for end-user execution. USP Class VI certification is included for the UltraPure variants. The full Alfa Laval Q-doc package is available with or without FAT and SAT.

Resource efficiency: water, media, and cleaning time

Because the jet pattern is deterministic rather than random, the SaniJet units achieve full coverage with a lower total volume of cleaning fluid than spray-ball or static nozzle approaches. Cleaning time is adjustable from 4 to 18 minutes on the SaniJet 20 air-driven version, with rotational speed settable between 3 and 14 RPM. Nozzle diameter is selectable to tune the balance between flow rate and jet reach at a given operating pressure. Recommended CIP media pressure is 5–8 bar, within a working range of 3–13 bar for the SaniJet 20 and 3–8 bar for the SaniJet 25.

ATEX certification for explosive atmosphere installation

The cleaning unit itself — both media-driven and air-driven — holds ATEX Category 1 approval under Directive 2014/34/EU for installation in Zone 0/20 (gas: II 1G Ex h IIC 85 °C... 175 °C Ga; dust: II 1D Ex h IIIC T 85 °C ... T 140 °C Da). On the air-driven SaniJet 20, the air motor unit carries a separate Category 2 rating for Zone 1/21 (II 2G Ex h IIC T4 Gb; II 2D Ex h IIIC T 135 °C Db). The cleaning unit can therefore remain inside the tank in the Zone 0/20 area, while the air drive unit is positioned outside in the less hazardous Zone 1/21 area.

Rotacheck validation for documented CIP performance

The optional Rotacheck electronic rotation sensor confirms that the rotary jet head is completing its full 3D rotation during every cleaning cycle. Quality and validation teams receive a sensor-based record of rotation status rather than relying on visual inspection or indirect process parameters. The 4-inch ISO 2852 tank connection supports integrated Rotacheck; the 3-inch clamp connection does not accommodate the integrated sensor. On the SaniJet 20, the minimum tank opening for a Rotacheck-equipped installation is the 4-inch clamp.

Industries

The SaniJet 20 and SaniJet 25 rotary jet head units serve food and beverage processing, dairy processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and biotechnology — any sector where hygienic tanks require validated, resource-efficient cleaning. The UltraPure variants address the stricter documentation and surface-finish requirements of pharmaceutical production and biotech, while the standard configuration covers the full range of food, beverage, and yeast propagation applications. Both product lines are available with ATEX certification for facilities where explosive atmospheres are a design consideration.

FAQ

Euroflow serves customers across southern and central Germany — covering postal code areas 66–99 and 07–08, spanning Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Thuringia, and Saxony. As an Alfa Laval Master Distributor for tank manufacturers, plant engineers, system suppliers, and end customers, we provide expert support in selecting and designing systems for viscous product handling and cleaning applications.

Tank volume is the starting point. The SaniJet 20 is rated for tanks from 5 to 30 m³, with a jet reach of 1.5–4 m; the SaniJet 25 covers 15–150 m³, with an impact throw length of 5.5–10 m and maximum wetting reach of 12.5–17 m. For tanks in the 15–30 m³ overlap range, the choice depends on residue type, desired flow rate, and available inlet pressure — the SaniJet 20 operates up to 13 bar, while the SaniJet 25 is rated to 8 bar maximum.

The cleaning unit itself holds ATEX Category 1 approval for installation directly in Zone 0/20 under Directive 2014/34/EU. On the air-driven SaniJet 20, the pneumatic air motor unit carries a separate Category 2 rating for Zone 1/21, so it must be positioned outside the most hazardous zone while the cleaning unit remains inside the tank.

The UltraPure variants of both the SaniJet 20 and SaniJet 25 are supplied with the Alfa Laval Q-doc package, which covers Equipment Documentation (including EN 10204 Type 3.1 inspection certificate, FDA DoC, GMP EC 2023/2006 DoC, and USP Class VI certificate) plus optional qualification documentation — Requirement Specification, Design Specification with traceability matrix, FAT with IQ and OQ protocols, and a SAT protocol for end-user execution.
