High-Purity Centrifugal Pump Design for Sterile Processing

The Alfa Laval LKH UltraPure high-purity centrifugal pump is constructed to meet the most stringent regulations in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. All media-contacting steel components, including the pump casing, impeller, and backplate, are fabricated from W. 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel. To ensure full compliance with regulatory standards, every unit is delivered with the Alfa Laval Q-doc package, providing easier validation and material traceability 3.1 according to EN 10204. This documentation is essential for maintaining GMP and meeting ASME BPE requirements.

Optimized Impeller for Energy Efficient Fluid Transfer

At the heart of the pump is a semi-open impeller with a special vane design. This geometry is specifically intended to provide gentle product handling while maximizing energy efficiency. Because the design minimizes internal recirculation, it significantly reduces the overall CO2 footprint of the production facility. For operations requiring specific flow characteristics, the pump can be configured with a reduced diameter impeller or one with a delta ferrite content of max. 1%.

Maintenance Friendly Front Loading Shaft Seals

To maximize uptime, the LKH UltraPure features a modular front-loading shaft seal. This design allows maintenance personnel to replace the seal in just a few minutes without removing the pump casing. The balanced seal design also minimizes the risk of seal opening during unforeseen pressure shocks, protecting the integrity of the process. All product-wetted elastomers are specified to USP Class VI standards, ensuring that the risk of contamination from extractables is strictly controlled.
