Alfa Laval Unique Sampling Valve

Alfa Laval Unique Sampling Valve

The Alfa Laval Unique Sampling Valve (Single Seat) is a hygienic sampling valve engineered for safe, contamination-free sample extraction in sterile process lines. Built around a single-piece stainless steel body and a stretchable membrane plug, it delivers the accuracy, repeatability, and reliability that quality teams need from a representative sampling valve.

Part of the Alfa Laval Unique sampling range, the valve is available with an ergonomic manual handle or a pneumatic actuator — both fully interchangeable on the same body. Three sizes (Type 4, Type 10, and Type 25) and a choice of Tank weld, collared tube weld, or Tri-Clamp body cover virtually any hygienic tie-in. A modular upgrade kit converts the unit to the Unique Sampling Valve (Double Seat) when process risk requirements evolve.

The valve is specified across dairy, food, beverage, brewery, pharmaceutical, and personal care production. In southern Germany, it is supplied and technically supported by Euroflow GmbH, Alfa Laval Master Distributor for postal codes 66–99 and 07–08.

Get in touch

The Alfa Laval Unique Sampling Valve (Single Seat) is a hygienic sampling valve built for processes where every sample must reflect the true product condition inside the line or tank. Its design centres on a single-piece stainless steel body, a stem-mounted elastomer membrane that acts as a stretchable plug, and an interchangeable head — either a manual handle or a pneumatic actuator — that gives operators precise control over each sampling event.

Hygienic design and single-piece body construction

The product-wetted body is machined from 1.4404 (316L) stainless steel and supplied with 3.1 material certification on product-wetted parts. Other steel components on the actuator are 1.4301 (304) and 1.4404 (316L). Product-wetted elastomers are available in EPDM or silicone, allowing the membrane material to be matched to the medium, cleaning chemistry, and temperature profile. The single-piece body eliminates crevices in the product zone, supporting reliable cleaning and reducing entrapment risk.

Sterilisation, CIP and SIP capability for an aseptic sampling valve

The valve operates across a temperature range of 1°C to 130°C and tolerates a maximum dry steam sterilisation temperature of 121°C at 2 bar. Maximum inlet pressure is 600 kPa (6 bar). An optional pressure relief valve on the outlet supports steam sterilisation routines, making the unit a practical choice as an aseptic sampling valve in lines that rely on CIP and SIP for product safety. The membrane sealing principle protects the sample path during cleaning and sterilisation cycles.

Representative sampling mechanics — the membrane as a stretchable plug

When closed, the elastomer membrane on the actuator stem is stretched against the body seat to form a tight, hygienic seal. On actuation, the membrane lifts and product flows through a defined sample path, then re-seals on closing. This action gives a representative sample of the bulk medium without exposing the process to the external environment.

Modular upgrade path to the Unique Sampling Valve (Double Seat)

The single-seat unit is fully part of the Unique Sampling Valve platform. Operators standardising on one sampling architecture can later upgrade to the Unique Sampling Valve (Double Seat) by fitting an upgrade kit and replacing the handle or actuator — protecting the investment in the installed valve body, tie-ins, and operator training.

Manual or pneumatic operation and connection flexibility

Handles and pneumatic actuators are interchangeable on the same body, so manual sampling points can be automated later without changing the process connection. Bodies are available for Tank welding, collared tube welding, or Tri-Clamp, with connection sizes covering ISO 25, ISO 38, ISO 51, ISO 63.5 and DIN 25, DIN 40, DIN 50, DIN 65. Sizes Type 4, Type 10, and Type 25 cover small-bore sampling through to larger hygienic lines.

In the Euroflow sales territory across Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Thuringia, and Saxony, technical selection and sizing for this hygienic sampling valve is supported directly by Euroflow GmbH as Alfa Laval Master Distributor.
