How does the Unique RV-P hygienic regulating valve achieve precision control?

The Alfa Laval Unique RV-P uses an electro-pneumatic actuator to convert a 4–20 mA control signal into precise valve-plug positioning. This allows continuous modulation of flow, pressure, temperature, or tank level — all from a single valve body. The actuator is externally mounted and secured to the valve body via a clamp, which means servicing the actuator does not require breaking the process seal. The standard actuator is normally open (NO); a normally closed (NC) variant is available on request, giving engineers the fail-safe behaviour that suits their specific process risk profile.

Twelve distinct Kv curves — from Kv 0.5 through Kv 110 — cover a broad operating range. Measurement follows VDI 2173 with water at 20 °C as the reference medium, and Alfa Laval recommends a maximum flow velocity of 5 m/s in tubing and valves. That wide spread means a single valve platform can serve everything from low-flow dosing loops to high-throughput transfer lines.

Hygienic 316L stainless steel construction and surface finish

Every product-wetted steel component is manufactured from 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel. Non-wetted structural parts use 1.4301 (AISI 304). Sizes range from 38 mm (OD) through 101.6 mm (OD) in ISO/SMS dimensions, and from DN40 through DN100 in DIN dimensions. Connection options include ISO clamp, SMS male, DIN clamp, and DIN male — matching the most common sanitary piping standards. The compact overall height (ranging from 405 mm in standard configurations up to 490 mm in aseptic DN100 models) keeps the valve footprint manageable in crowded process skids.

Profibus communication for automated sanitary lines

An optional Profibus communication module connects the RV-P directly to a plant's distributed control system. This enables remote setpoint adjustment, real-time position feedback, and diagnostic monitoring without additional analog wiring runs. On large installations with dozens of regulating valves, digital fieldbus integration consolidates signal routing and centralises valve status reporting.

For smaller or legacy installations that rely on analog control, the standard 4–20 mA interface remains fully functional. The Profibus option is an add-on — it does not change the valve's mechanical or pneumatic configuration.

Aseptic configuration for sterile processing

The aseptic variant of the Unique RV-P is rated to a maximum of 8 bar and incorporates design features that maintain sterile barrier integrity during operation and CIP/SIP cycles. Dimensional differences between standard and aseptic versions are minimal — typically 1–7 mm in overall height depending on size — so retrofitting an existing standard installation to aseptic service remains consistent with the original layout.
