Alfa Laval Rotacheck Sensor

Alfa Laval Rotacheck Sensor

The Alfa Laval Rotacheck Sensor is a cleaning validation sensor that turns every CIP cycle from an assumption into documented proof. Mounted on the tank, it detects the sweep and impact of fluid jets released by Alfa Laval and Toftejorg rotary jet heads, confirming that a full 360° cleaning pattern has actually been delivered — even when the tank is pressurized during CIP.

Built around a stainless steel IP67 casing with a 316L sensor and diaphragm, the unit is engineered for hygienic operation in demanding process environments. Its signal can be audible, visual, or integrated directly into process control, giving operators reliable tank cleaning verification on every cycle and audit-ready evidence for quality teams.

The Rotacheck Sensor is specified by tank builders, plant engineers, system integrators, and end customers across dairy, food, beverage, brewery and pharmaceutical production. In southern Germany, it is supplied and supported by Euroflow, an Alfa Laval Master Distributor with deep technical expertise in hygienic process equipment.

As a dedicated cleaning validation sensor, the Rotacheck Sensor closes a critical gap in hygienic processing: confirming that the rotary jet head inside a closed tank has actually completed its programmed cleaning cycle. Instead of relying on timers and flow assumptions, operators receive a deterministic signal tied to the geared mechanical motion of the jet head and the measured impact of its fluid jets.

How the Rotacheck Sensor verifies tank cleaning coverage

The sensor is positioned to receive the sweep and impact force of the jets as the rotary jet head rotates through its full cycle. By correlating the geared rotation of the cleaning device with repeated impact pulses on the diaphragm, the Rotacheck Sensor verifies that the 360° pattern has been completed. Any backpressure inside the tank is accounted for, so verification remains accurate under realistic CIP conditions. The output can be configured as an audible alarm, a visual indicator, or a digital signal fed into a plant process control system.

Hygienic construction and materials for CIP validation

The sensor body uses a stainless steel IP67-rated casing, with the sensor and diaphragm machined from 1.4404 (316L). The wetted surfaces are designed to withstand cleaning chemistries and elevated temperatures, with a maximum medium temperature on the diaphragm of 140 °C. Operating pressure is 0.1–2 bar, with overload tolerance up to 15 bar, suiting the unit to typical pressurized CIP regimes.

ATEX certification for hazardous CIP environments

The standard ATEX-certified version is intended for use in potentially explosive areas. The sensor complies with Category 1/2 requirements for installation in zones 0/1 and 20/21, while the relay complies with Category 2 requirements for installation in zone 1/21. The unit is tested and approved to the EU EMC directive, and a 3.1 material certificate is available on request — supporting documentation packs for regulated dairy, brewery and pharmaceutical sites.

Mounting and integration with Toftejorg SaniJet 20

The Rotacheck Sensor mounts either by clamping into a welding adapter installed on the tank, or by clamping directly onto a Toftejorg SaniJet 20. Specification teams should note one critical constraint: the unit uses a 4" clamp connection only and is not suitable for 3" clamp connections. Cable options of 2 m or 10 m (Ø6 mm PVC, 2 x 0.75 mm²) allow flexible routing to the relay and control cabinet.

For plants in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony, Euroflow supports specification, sizing and integration of the Rotacheck Sensor as Alfa Laval Master Distributor for southern Germany.

No. The Rotacheck Sensor uses a 4" clamp connection only and is not suitable for 3" clamp connections. Plants running 3" jet heads must use the welding adapter mounting option or specify a compatible 4" arrangement.

The unit generates an electrical pulse of minimum 1.0 second duration when it detects the sweep and impact of the rotary jet head. This signal can be configured as an audible alarm, a visual indicator, or fed directly into a process control system to log cleaning verification per CIP cycle.

Yes. The sensor complies with ATEX Category 1/2 for installation in zones 0/1 and 20/21, while the relay complies with Category 2 for zone 1/21. The unit is also tested to the EU EMC directive, and a 3.1 material certificate is available for documentation packs.
