Alfa Laval Industrial Line Gedichteter Plattenwärmeübertrager

Alfa Laval Industrial Line

The Alfa Laval Industrial Line gasketed plate heat exchanger range delivers reliable heat transfer for virtually every process duty — from compact utility cooling to high-recovery pasteurisation. Spanning ten models, this industrial plate heat exchanger family covers the full spectrum: the T2 is the smallest unit in the range, while the T6 and T10 handle high-throughput duties with proprietary CurveFlow™ and FlexFlow™ technologies. Tall-plate TL variants maximise heat recovery across long temperature programs, and the short-plate TS6 minimises pressure drop where flow resistance matters most. Every model shares core strengths — high energy efficiency, CIP-cleanable construction, and a flexible plate pack that lets you add or remove plates to match changing process requirements without replacing the frame. With up to ten plate alloys, five gasket materials, and pressure vessel code compliance from pvcALS to ASME and PED, the Industrial Line adapts to corrosive, high-purity, and demanding media alike. Euroflow provides expert sizing and selection across the full range for customers in southern Germany — contact us to find the right configuration for your process.

How does a gasketed plate heat exchanger improve process efficiency?

A gasketed plate heat exchanger transfers thermal energy between two fluid streams through thin corrugated plates, achieving high heat transfer coefficients in a compact footprint. The Alfa Laval Industrial Line builds on more than 140 years of heat transfer expertise to deliver units that reduce energy consumption and operating costs across every installation. Because the plates are held together by gaskets rather than welds, each unit can be opened for inspection, manual cleaning, or CIP without specialist tools. This accessibility translates directly into higher uptime and lower maintenance spend.

All ten models in the range share these fundamental advantages. High energy efficiency keeps utility costs down. The compact frame design saves valuable floor space. And the ability to clean by CIP means hygienic operation in food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical environments without extended shutdowns.

Choosing the right model: standard, tall-plate, and short-plate configurations

The Industrial Line divides into three sub-families, each optimised for different duty profiles. Understanding which sub-family fits your process is the fastest route to an efficient, cost-effective specification.

The standard T-series — T2, M3, T5, T6, T8, and T10 — covers general-purpose and high-throughput applications. The T2 is the smallest unit in the industrial range, suited to low-capacity duties and pilot installations. The T6 and T10 are designed for high throughput and deliver excellent thermal performance, making them the preferred choice for large-volume heating, cooling, and heat recovery tasks.

The tall-plate TL-series — TL3, TL6, and TL10 — features a relatively tall plate that extends the thermal channel length. This design is ideal for duties with long temperature programs and when high heat recovery is a priority. If your process requires close approach temperatures or maximum energy recuperation, a TL model will typically outperform a standard-plate equivalent at the same footprint.

The TS6 takes the opposite approach. Its relatively short plate suits duties with short temperature programs and where a low pressure drop is appreciated. This makes it a strong candidate for systems with limited pump capacity or processes where minimising flow resistance is critical.

Proprietary Alfa Laval technologies for performance and reliability

The T6, T8, and T10 models incorporate a suite of proprietary technologies that enhance thermal performance and simplify maintenance. CurveFlow™ distribution areas improve media flow across the plate and minimise the risk of fouling — a measurable benefit in processes handling viscous or particulate-laden fluids. OmegaPort™ non-circular port holes enhance media flow and thermal efficiency at the plate inlet and outlet. FlexFlow™ plate design, available on the T6 and T10, optimises pressure drop utilisation to extract more thermal duty from the same frame size.

On the gasket side, ClipGrip™ attachment ensures a perfect seal and trouble-free maintenance — gaskets snap into place without adhesive, reducing re-gasketing time significantly. SteerLock™ plate alignment, available on the T6 and T10, ensures reliable plate positioning during reassembly, eliminating misalignment risk and making service faster and more predictable.

Models outside the T6/T8/T10 group use complementary features. The TL10 offers a five-point alignment system for reliable positioning of large plate packs. The TL6, TL10, and TS6 incorporate a chocolate pattern distribution area for even flow distribution. Corner-guided alignment systems appear across the T5, T8, TL3, TL6, and TS6. Offset gasket grooves — present on several models — ensure full plate utilisation for maximum heat transfer efficiency.

Plate and gasket materials for corrosive and high-purity media

Material selection is often the deciding factor when specifying a plate heat exchanger for aggressive or high-purity fluids. The Alfa Laval Industrial Line offers the broadest material range on the T6, with single plates available in 304, 316, 254, Alloy C276, C2000, D205, Ni, Ti, TiPd, and G30. This covers everything from standard stainless steel duties to highly corrosive acids, chloride-rich brines, and pharmaceutical-grade media. Other models offer subsets of this range — the TL10 covers 304/304L, 316/316L, 254, Alloy C276, Ni, Ti, and TiPd, while the T2 and TS6 use 316/316L.

Gasket options include NBR, EPDM, FKM, HNBR, and HeatSeal. HNBR is available on the T6 for applications requiring enhanced oil resistance, while HeatSeal gaskets on the T6, TL6, TL10, and TS6 handle elevated temperature duties. The right gasket-plate combination ensures chemical compatibility and long service life — we can help you match materials to your specific media and temperature profile.

For applications where fluid intermixing poses a safety or quality risk, the M3 and TL3 models are available with double wall plates. This configuration adds an extra barrier between the two fluid circuits. If a plate develops a leak, the fluid drains visibly rather than contaminating the opposite stream — a critical safeguard in dairy, food, and pharmaceutical processes.

Flexible configuration and easy serviceability

Every model in the Industrial Line allows you to add or remove plates to modify the heat transfer area. This means a single frame can be re-configured to handle increased capacity, seasonal duty changes, or entirely new process requirements — without purchasing a new unit. The result is lower capital expenditure and faster adaptation to evolving production needs.

Serviceability is designed in from the start. Compact frames on the T6 and TL6 minimise the service area footprint. Lifting lugs on larger models simplify handling during maintenance. Key-hole bolt openings speed up frame opening, while fixed bolt heads and lock washers prevent fastener loss. Tightening bolt covers protect hardware between service intervals. On the TL10, a pressure plate roller allows the pressure plate to be rolled back with minimal effort, even on large plate packs.

CIP-cleanable construction across all models means you can restore full thermal performance without disassembly in many applications. When manual cleaning is needed, the gasketed design allows quick plate removal and reassembly.

Pressure vessel codes and compliance

The Industrial Line supports multiple pressure vessel codes to meet regional and industry-specific regulatory requirements. All models comply with pvcALS. The M3, TL3, TL6, TL10, TS6, T6, and T8 add ASME and PED certification. The T6 extends coverage further to include Marine classification — encompassing ABS, BV, CCS, ClassNK, DNV, KR, LR, and RINA standards.

The operating envelope spans from −50 to +250 °C and from absolute vacuum to 46.5 barg on the T6. Other models cover subsets of this range — the T2 operates from −33 to +250 °C at up to 20.8 barg, while the M3 reaches −48 to +180 °C at up to 22.9 barg. Extended pressure and temperature ratings may be available on request for specific models.

Flange connections follow EN 1092-1, ASME B16.5, and JIS B22220 studded port standards depending on pressure vessel code and design requirements. Threaded connections are available to ISO 228, ISO 7, and NPT standards. Euroflow can confirm which connection and code combinations apply to your selected model.

The best model depends on your duty profile. The standard T-series (T2, M3, T5, T6, T8, T10) handles general-purpose and high-throughput heating or cooling. The tall-plate TL-series (TL3, TL6, TL10) excels at long temperature programs and high heat recovery. The TS6 is optimised for short temperature programs with low pressure drop requirements. If you need double wall plates to prevent fluid intermixing, specify the M3 or TL3. Contact Euroflow for detailed sizing and model selection support.

The range offers up to ten plate alloys — from 304/304L and 316/316L to exotic materials such as Alloy C276, C2000, D205, G30, Ni, Ti, and TiPd — with the widest selection available on the T6. Gasket options include NBR, EPDM, FKM, HNBR, and HeatSeal for chemical and thermal compatibility. Not all material combinations are available on every model, so Euroflow can confirm the right pairing for your specific media and operating conditions.

Yes. The gasketed plate design allows you to add or remove plates within the existing frame to increase or decrease heat transfer capacity. This flexibility reduces capital expenditure and lets you adapt the unit to changing process requirements — such as seasonal production swings or capacity upgrades — without purchasing a new exchanger. CIP cleaning maintains thermal performance between reconfigurations.
