Alfa Laval CB Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Range

Alfa Laval CB

The Alfa Laval CB range is a versatile brazed plate heat exchanger family designed to deliver efficient heat transfer in a remarkably compact footprint. Spanning models from the CB10 to the CB400 and beyond — including CBH, CBP, CBK, and CBXP variants — this series covers a wide operating envelope. Pressure ratings range from 10 to 90 bar and temperatures from -196°C to 225°C, depending on model. Every unit features gasket-free, all-stainless-steel construction with copper brazing, eliminating seal degradation and minimising maintenance. The modular design means each compact plate heat exchanger is custom-built from standard components to match your installation requirements. Whether you need HVAC heating and cooling, refrigeration, oil cooling, or industrial process temperature control, the CB range adapts through symmetric and asymmetric channel configurations, multiple connection types, and specialist variants for CO2 and leak-sensitive duties. Contact Euroflow for expert guidance on selecting and sizing the right Alfa Laval CB unit for your project.

Get in touch

The Alfa Laval CB series brazed plate heat exchanger uses a copper brazing filler to bond stainless steel plates, creating a permanently sealed plate pack without elastomer seals. This construction yields high heat transfer efficiency within a small footprint, while the corrugated plate geometry promotes turbulence that supports robust performance. All CB series units are pressure and leak tested at the factory, ensuring joint integrity across the plate pack. The absence of elastomer seals reduces maintenance needs, and the modular concept enables custom building from standard components to match duty, pressure class, and connections.

Asymmetric channels and CO2 refrigerant applications

Select models, including CB62, CB65, CB112, and CBXP112, offer asymmetric channel configurations to reduce refrigerant charge or lower pressure drop on the water/brine side. The XP design variant (CBXP112) is specifically suited to CO2 refrigerants and achieves PED-approved design pressures up to 85 bar.

Modular concept and plate-count configuration

Each CB series unit is custom-built from standard components. Plate count determines the unit’s A-measurement and weight via published formulas, with minimums from 4 to maximums up to 300 depending on model. Specifiers size the unit using the plate-count range rather than fixed catalogue sizes, enabling precise duty matching.

Refrigerant distribution and material consistency

The CB30, CB60, and CB62 models can be supplied with a refrigerant distribution system for even evaporator performance. Across the CB series, cover plates, connections, plates, and brazing filler are stainless steel and copper respectively, ensuring consistent material compatibility where copper in brazing is permitted.

Pressure vessel approvals and design envelope

Most CB series models carry PED and UL pressure-vessel approvals; marine CBM variants add classification certificates from ABS, BV, CCS, ClassNK, DNV-GL, KR, LR, and RINA. All models are designed for full vacuum, expanding their application to duties where the process side operates below atmospheric pressure. For exact pressure-temperature values for a given plate count and configuration, Alfa Laval’s configurator generates the drawing or your local representative can advise.

Every Alfa Laval CB unit is custom-built from modular components to match the specific thermal duty, pressure, temperature, and flow requirements of your installation. Because no two applications are identical, the correct model, plate count, and channel configuration are determined during the sizing process. Contact Euroflow for technical consultation or use the Alfa Laval configurator to generate a detailed specification and drawing for your project.

The CB series covers pressure ratings from 10 bar (145 PSI) on the CB18 up to 90 bar (1305 PSI) on the CBXP27 and CBXP52, depending on model and approval standard (PED or UL). Most models operate from -196°C to 225°C, though select variants such as the CB11 (-50°C to 150°C) and CBH18DW (-160°C to 150°C) have narrower temperature envelopes. Always verify the specific pressure-temperature rating for your chosen model, as some units derate at elevated temperatures.

The CB range supports seven connection types: external thread, internal thread, soldering, welding, grooved, compact flange, and clamp. Availability depends on the specific model — for example, compact flange and clamp connections are offered on larger units like the CB400 and CB410, while internal thread and soldering connections are common on smaller models. Euroflow can advise on the correct connection type to match your piping system and installation requirements.
