Alfa Laval ALB agitator

Alfa Laval ALB

The Alfa Laval ALB is a bottom-mounted hygienic agitator engineered for precise mixing and blending in atmospheric and pressurized tanks across sterile and aseptic process industries. Its modular architecture lets engineers configure the drive, seal arrangement, shaft, and propeller exactly to the duty — from milk storage and yoghurt blending to syrup, juice, and protein dispersion. At its core, the EnSaFoil energy-saving impeller delivers high flow with low shear through an effective axial pumping action, treating delicate products gently while keeping energy demand low.

Built around a stainless steel bearing frame with O-ring seals and free of flange couplings inside the tank, the ALB sanitary tank agitator is designed for full CIP and exceptional drip-off performance. Wear parts are accessible from outside the tank, reducing downtime and protecting product integrity. As an Alfa Laval Master Distributor for southern Germany, Euroflow GmbH supports plant engineers, tank builders, and end users with sizing, configuration, and technical specification of the ALB for demanding hygienic process duties.

The Alfa Laval ALB bottom-mounted hygienic agitator is engineered around a single principle: deliver homogeneous, gentle mixing in hygienic tanks while keeping energy consumption, maintenance, and contamination risk to a minimum. Every element of the unit — drive, seal, shaft, impeller, and finish — is selectable, which allows the agitator to be matched precisely to tank geometry, product viscosity, and process duty.

How the EnSaFoil impeller agitator delivers high-flow, low-shear mixing

An electrical drive motor transmits power directly or through a gearbox to the agitator shaft, which rotates the EnSaFoil impeller. Available with two or three blades, the EnSaFoil generates a high axial flow at low shear, circulating the entire tank volume efficiently. This pumping characteristic makes the ALB suitable for keeping media homogeneous, mixing fluids and solutions, dispersing powders and oils, suspending particles in juice or crystallizing duties, and supporting heat transmission in dimple-jacketed tanks.

Hygienic design built for CIP and aseptic duties

The bearing frame is fabricated in stainless steel and sealed with O-rings for straightforward external washing. There is no flange coupling inside the tank — the drive shaft connects through a special internal arrangement that minimises product-contact risk zones. Internal parts are free of plane surfaces and grooves for reliable drip-off, and the impeller blades have no shadow sides, eliminating areas where soil could accumulate. Together these features make the ALB suitable as a CIP agitator in sterile and aseptic applications and aligned with EHEDG, 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA, and USDA requirements.

Outside-the-tank serviceability for maximum uptime

Routine service — including replacement of shaft seals and bearings — is performed entirely from outside the tank. The detachable shaft and spider type coupling allow quick dismantling without breaking tank integrity or interrupting the surrounding process more than necessary. The result is higher uptime, better yield, and lower maintenance cost over the equipment lifecycle.

Configurable modular architecture for any sanitary tank agitator duty

The ALB design is divided into five configurable elements: drives (drive type, shaft support, shaft diameter), seal arrangements (oil trap and shaft seal type), shaft length, Energy Saving Foils (propeller type and surface finish), and options. Each element offers a broad range of characteristics, enabling Euroflow's specialists to size and specify the agitator for almost any hygienic mixing duty.

Energy-saving design and gentle product treatment

Because the EnSaFoil propellers and drive units are selected from a wide efficiency range, the ALB can be configured for low operational cost on each specific duty. The same high-efficiency propeller portfolio allows low-shear designs that protect delicate products such as yoghurt, cream, flavoured milk, and crystallising suspensions — translating energy savings into both OPEX reduction and improved product quality.
